DSL Internet

Definition
This technology uses existing telephone wiring to deliver high-speed data services to homes and businesses, giving always-on Internet access that does not tie up the phone line. Requires the purchase or rental of a DSL modem for your home or office to connect.
Speed
DSL users have a choice of speeds ranging from 256 Kbps to 5 Mbps asynchronous (faster downloads than uploads). This is about 4.5 to 90 times faster than a standard 56 Kbps dial-up modem.
There is no download bursting capability with DSL service.
Availability
DSL is available within 3 cable miles of a phone company central office or remote terminal equipped with DSL equipment.
Remote DSL terminals, also knows as DSLAMs, are always being added - please be aware that if a phone company telemarketer can offer you DSL, so can TaosNet.
Cost
DSL is a two part service - one part is the physical phone line that belongs to the phone company, and another is the actual internet access. As a two part service, there are two costs associated with it, one for each part. Total cost for DSL ranges from $30 to $68 for Residential users, and $45 to $95 for business users.

Installation and Setup
Free Installation of one DSL modem by TaosNet. Installation and setup process:
  • A letter of Agency is needed for TaosNet to order the service on your behalf.
  • The phone company will set a date when that service will be activated.
  • TaosNet will schedule a time with you anytime afer the due date for a technician to do your free installation.
Equipment
DSL requires a DSL Modem. The modem may be either wireless ($100) or non-wireless ($60). A wireless DSL modem allows you to connect your computer, laptop, smartphone, etc. to the Internet without having to cable your computer directly to the modem.
*A wireless modem is required for smartphones, as well as devices like an iPad.

Detailed Cost for Access Services

This service requires a two-part billing plan. The local telephone company (telco) will bill for use of phone lines. TaosNet will bill for Internet access, $15 to $30 per month. Rates depend on speed selected. Bandwidth speeds represent the maximum connection speed under ideal conditions.
